Do holidays make you sad? Your best friend is going to her fiance’s family’s home for Thanksgiving. Your classmates are taking their boyfriends to the college Christmas party. Every girl you know is getting a gift from their beau. Every girl but you.
Yes, holidays can be discouraging when you see your friends enjoying them with the man they love. It can seem you don’t have much to be thankful for when your greatest desire is absent. But when you put things into perspective, every single young woman has much to be thankful for!
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
It doesn’t say “for” everything give thanks, but “in” everything give thanks. No matter your situation in life, you can always find something deserving of thankfulness. You may not have a boyfriend, but you do have family. You may not have a ring on your finger, but you do have clothes on your back. You may not have a date for the holidays, but you do have Jesus always by your side. This alone is a good reason to celebrate!
I want to challenge you during this holiday season to practice thankfulness. Maybe you don’t have everything you want right now, but the Person who loves you most can give you the desires of your heart—in His good time!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! (Psalm 136:1a)
